GreenForest Nursery, Inc. is located in Perkinston, Mississippi, at the intersection of Old Highway 26 and Wire Road West. Established in June 1983, GreenForest has thrived for decades, growing into a premier nursery known for its dedication to quality and service.

Founded by Dan Batson, the nursery was built on land that has been in the Batson family for generations. In the early years, Dan began by harvesting native trees from the surrounding woods — primarily yaupon and wax myrtle — to sell to clients in Birmingham, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia. These early efforts not only established vital cash flow but also laid the foundation for what would become an enduring legacy in the nursery industry. By 1989, GreenForest had cultivated a robust inventory and earned a respected reputation.

The 1990s marked a period of significant growth and diversification. GreenForest Nursery expanded its acreage and introduced new plant varieties, including the Kathy Ann Yaupon holly. This expansion enabled us to broaden our sales reach into Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee. Throughout this period of high housing demand, we grew rapidly but mindfully, always focused on providing our customers with the best possible products.

In 2005, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina tested us in ways we could never have anticipated. Thanks to our dedicated team, loyal customers, and supportive community, we not only recovered but experienced our most successful year to date. The resilience we showed during that time underscored the strength of our values and the commitment to our craft.

Even duing the economic downturn of the “Great Recession,” GreenForest remained financially sound. We upheld our planting schedules and continued to grow thanks to our prudent business practices. Our team has since expanded to include two highly skilled sales representatives and a production manager, all of whom are leaders in their respective fields.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to delivering the high-quality plant material that our customers have come to know and expect, while continuing to grow the legacy of GreenForest Nursery for generations to come.
